Debra DM Gordon
I qualified as an Endocrinologist in 2012 in Johannesburg, South Africa and after many years in academic Service at Chris Hani Baragwanath ( the biggest Hospital in the southern hemisphere, with an inpatient capacity that exceeds 2000 beds), I moved to The Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre and the Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology. I spent the next 8 years there, developing an interest for pituitary and adrenal disease, and diabetes, whilst still maintaining an interest and involvement in other aspects of endocrinology such as neuroendocrine diseases, transgender medicine, OT-DSD and transplant endocrinology. I was fortunate enough to work at a major endocrine referral centre with endocrine surgeons and pituitary neurosurgeons which allowed me to quickly gain experience in rarer diseases of endocrinology. My work at the Centre for Diabetes, allowed me to develop my skills as the leader of multidisciplinary diabetes team and , under the watchful eye of Prof Larry Distiller, I was able to really develop a love for diabetes and technology in diabetes. I immigrated to Australia in Feb 2020 with my husband and 3 children and have been working as an endocrine registrar at Eastern Health Box Hill hospital.
